Today we are talking about the areas of your face that you and I should be highlighting every day. I think we can all agree that it’s super annoying when your face looks dull and blah, and highlighting can really make a huge difference. Now, before I get started, I want to mention that these are basic areas of the face that ususally look better with highlighting. If you try one of these areas out and you think it looks no bueno, don’t highlight there. For instance, if your nose has a slight bump on the bridge, perhaps you should skip highlighting that area.
Highlighting is basically drawing light to the areas of the face that we want brought out to create a more soft look to the face. Every face has shadows, we are bringing light to those shadows and/or contrasting shadow that we want to be there… like the ones under our cheekbones. Let me know if you have questions!
1) Above your brow to make your eyes look lifted.
2) Highlight above your brow bone to create dimension with the contour of your eye.
3) Make your eyes look more awake by highlighting near your tear ducts.
4) Highlighting above your cheekbones adds dimension and contrast to the hollows of your cheeks.
5) By highlighting the bridge of you nose, it appears to be slimmer.
6) To make your lips look a bit more pouty, highlight in the cupids bow.
There are many thing’s that you can use when you are wanting to highlight your face. But what I found for everyday use and something that I carry always in my makeup kit is the MAC Cream Colour Base in Pearl. I apply this by using the tips of my fingers…pretty basic and easy!

Do it! You will seriously not regret that purchase. It lasts forever.
I don’t wear makeup or use creams.
You should give this one a try..it’s pretty basic : )
I avoid highlighting anywhere I get oily, but I do love a good brow bone and cheek bone highlight. 😉
Yeah, definitely don’t use a highlighter on areas that are oily for sure!
I always forget to highlight above the brow
You do a great job highlighting, your face always looks so bright!
Thanks girl!
I absolutely love this post. MAC pearl is amazing and works on all skintones as a perfect highlighter without looking discoball-esque. Great post. And beautiful as always too.
Thank you Jamie, glad you liked the post…thanks for your sweet compliment. xo
I love this post! I need to highlight more often!
This was such a helpful post!

I love highlighting! It really changes someones face.
I have not highlighted above the brow or under my nose, I’m going to see how all six spots look on me tomorrow! Thanks for the tips!
do it! and you are welcome.
I haven’t been highlighting at all, but theses are great tips.
I never highlight above the brow… mental note to do that in the morning!
Fantastic tips!
Highlighting is an addiction! 🙂 Great post
Thanks Laura : )
Always hit to brow bone and inner corners of the eye
Great post! I am going to have to try your tips!
Love your photos! i actually have Pearl and now I want to break it out and use it again
You need to! It’s so good…such a great basic highlighter that looks good on everyone!
I never highlight because I feel like I’d make a mess of myself if I did, I don’t know how to use highlighter properly haha. But I do always use a light, shimmery shadow on the inner corners of my eyes and under my brow bone if I’m wearing shadow that day!
at least you got get the inner corners of your eye..that’s an important one.
Loved your chart so much! Thank you for sharing! =)
I love MAC Pearl! Great breakdown!
Great tutorial! I’m learning a lot from you. Hugs!!
I’m a huge fan of highlighting, but I’ve never applied it over the brow. Maybe I should start, because it looks fab on you 🙂
I always forget to highlight my cupid’s bow!
Really good highlighting guide and this I find is better than contouring.
Highlighting and contouring are one of the secrets of makeup – everyone shows you how to do it, but then I try it on myself… and it just doesn’t look the same! lol. There must have been some magic in that makeup brush…
I need to try this! Thanks for the great pic so I have a guide to really follow!
I do those areas everyday except i usually do just the tip of my nose instead of the bridge of my nose
Love this, I need to try this creme!
Yep I always highlight the lip heart!
Three cheers for highlighting!
Whew, looks good but I barely have time to powder my face! lol
