Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Review

It looks like a gel manicure, feels like a gel manicure, but does the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel nail polish last like a gel manicure? The background story is this: my sister-in-law called me up and told me I needed to pick these polishes up because in her words, “they are ah-maz-ing.” Usually, the roles are reversed, and I am the one telling her what she needs in the beauty department. So, when she recommended I drop everything and run immediately to get some from the store, I listened, and here I am today writing this review. (We help each other out like that.)

Once I was at the store and saw the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel display, I quickly realized that I wanted every-single-color. Like seriously…every color was ridiculously pretty. But since it’s fall and we are heading into the holiday season, I chose colors that would pair well with my current black and gray wardrobe. I think I might be a little goth at heart. Or at least appreciate the dark clothing vibes of All Saints and Helmut Lang. Okay, maybe that would be considered rocker chic? I don’t know. Moving on.

What’s so unique about these at home gel nail polishes is that they don’t require any UV lamp, and there are fewer steps involved. With that said, my favorite thing about gel manicures is that I don’t have to worry about smudging them because they dry immediately under a UV Lamp. So, I wasn’t sure how the Sally Hansen gel polish was going to be any different from regular polish with drying time and the chance that my klutzy self would destroy them seconds after application.

I will say that my first go around with these polishes wasn’t that great. But truthfully it’s my fault. With these no UV gel lacquers, there are two steps: the color, and then the gel top coat. I applied two layers of the color and then the top coat but didn’t let anything dry in between. And while they dried way quicker than a typical polish, I still didn’t give them enough time to dry, and they smudged upon picking up my son. So that was annoying…not going to lie.

But even though my first try was a fail, I decided to go ahead and give it a second try and apply it like I would a UV gel. You see, even with UV polishes, you have to wait 1 minute in between applying your layers. You can’t just layer one after the next; they need time to cure. So this time I applied one coat of the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Wine Stock, waited a minute, then applied another coat, waited a minute, then applied the gel top coat.

I also made sure that none of my kids would need me during my DIY mani sesh so my nails could dry. I would say it took about 10-15 minutes for them to be completely dry to where I could do the dishes or fold laundry without fear of smudging. If you think about it, the dry time for a UV Gel mani is about 15 minutes with all of the steps. So, I feel like it’s pretty comparable, plus, you don’t need to buy a lamp to get the gel polish results.

So yes, after taking the time to let them dry, my nails looked real good. Like, I just went to the salon and spent $45.00 on them good. But the real question is, did the pretty mani last? Let’s talk about.

All of the advertising for this gel polish says that it will last up to 14 days. It doesn’t guarantee 14 days, but it says it’s possible. I am hard on my nails, so this polish started chipping on my right hand on day 4 while my left hand stayed perfect because I don’t use it as much. So definitely not 14 days for me, but even when I do a shellac manicure, they start chipping around day 7, and I don’t have a bottle of polish to do touch ups.

So there are pro’s and cons to the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel just like anything else. Here is what they are for me.

Pros:
• Looks like a gel
• Feels like a gel
• The color choices are stunning
• They have great shine to them
• Last longer than other nail polishes
• Costs around $14.00 and you can probably get 20-30 applications

Cons
• Unless you are a hand model, wear gloves, and don’t touch anything ever, it won’t last 14 days.

Honestly, the pros far out way the cons for me. I think I may have found the solution to the perfect at-home gel polish, and I don’t think I can ever go with anything else. That’s a bit of an exaggeration. But seriously, I am sold.
If you decide to follow in my footsteps and give this at-home gel mani a try, check out Wine Stock, Slate-r Girl, and Bare Dare. They are my go-to colors to get for this fall/winter/holiday season.
Have a great day!

There have been so many times I’ve stared longingly at these in the store…just couldn’t decide how to choose just one color. And, unlike gel, these are easily removable so it’s definitely worth it.

  • I love this! It definitely lasts and has an awesome finish

  • I am like you. Black is my entire wardrobe. With the occasional taupe or beige thrown in.

  • Gel effects without the hassle of LED lamp curing? I want this range!

  • that color is gorgeous. I love my Sally Hansen Salon polishes, but the gels just will NOT dry on me.
