You can whip up this budget-friendly, home-made anti-aging serum in minutes and add it to your skincare regimen for daily free-radical blocking protection and reduce the signs of aging skin. Keep your collagen and elastin going with these easy step-by-step instructions.
DIY Vitamin C Serum
I am an esthetician and fanatic when it comes to skincare. I don’t take what I put on my skin lightly and am a huge believer in investing in the only skin you have by taking excellent care of it. One of the best ways to invest in the health of your skin is to use a daily dose of topical Vitamin C for protection of your skin cells.
You have to be careful with Vitamin C in skincare though because it can oxidize very quickly and become ineffective. That’s why you see so many anti-aging serums in dark, amber bottles. If you buy a vitamin C serum and it turns a dark shade of Orange, that means it has already oxidized and won’t give you the anti-aging benefits you want for your skin.
Here’s what you can expect from this DIY Vitamin C serum.
- Free-Radical Protection
- Less Brown Pigmentation
- Glowing and Exfoliated Skin
- Softened Fine Lines and Wrinkles
- Added Hydration
Vitamin C and Glycerin for Hydration
There are many Vitamin C options out there to buy that I love, but if you want a quick DIY recipe that you can easily make at home, let me show you how. The main ingredients for this DIY are Vitamin C Powder, glycerin and distilled water. Glycerin is what’s used as the “vehicle” to make the Vitamin C into a serum for this DIY, but you can also use Aloe Vera too. Glycerin mimics your natural moisture levels and is good for all skin types, but especially those wanting anti-aging benefits.
DIY Vitamin C Serum Ingredients
Ingredients and What You Need:
1 tsp Vitamin C Powder (This is the one I use HERE)
1 tsp Distilled Water
2 Tbs Vegetable Glycerin (This one is as fantastic price HERE)
Amber bottle Dropper (the ones I use are here)
Mixing bowl or a small funnel
DIY Vitamin C Serum Instructions
You can mix all of these ingredients per my instructions in a bowl, or you can just add them directly to the bottle with your funnel. For this DIY serum, I am going to use a funnel and the Amber bottle.
Step 1: Add one tsp of Vitamin C Powder to Amber Bottle.
Step 2: Add 1 tsp of distilled water to Amber Bottle and shake the bottle for a good minute. Make sure that Vitamin C Powder is completely dissolved into the distilled water before doing step three. If you are having a hard time getting the vitamin c crystals or powder to disappear, run the bottle under warm water (with the lid closed) for about 15 seconds. This little trick should make them melt entirely into the distilled water.
Step 3: Add 2 Tbs of Glycerin into the Amber bottle and shake it really well together.
How to Use Your DIY Vitamin C Serum
Once your bottle of anti-aging vitamin C serum made, you can add it into your daily skincare regimen. I like to use Vitamin C every single day to help keep my skin looking young.
Cleanse your skin and pat it dry.
Apply one drop of your DIY Vitamin C serum.
Apply your moisturizer.
How Long Does it Last
Because these fresh batches of anti-aging serums have no preservatives, you will need to make a new one every 5-7 days. You can keep it in the refrigerator if you want for up to two weeks, but after that, your vitamin c is pretty useless, and you won’t get the total effect of anti-aging benefits of less fine lines, wrinkles, and brown pigmentation.
Can You Add Anything Else to your DIY Vitamin C Serum
Yes, you can add other skincare ingredients to your DIY Vitamin C serum. Some people like to add a drop of vitamin E oil for added hydration and even some hyaluronic acid. I have added a drop of Lavender to mine for a fresh scent.
How Will the DIY Vitamin C Serum Feel
When you apply the DIY Serum to your skin, you will most likely feel it tingle a little bit, and that is completely normal as it’s exfoliating your skin. Don’t be alarmed if it makes your skin a little bit pink in the beginning as your skin get’s use to it.
How Long Until You See Results from DIY Vitamin C Serum
You should immediately feel a tightness in your skin and a radiant glow. But for the long-term benefits of reduced brown pigmentation and fines lines and wrinkles, it will take a good 6-8 weeks with complete consistency. Be patient and let your serum do the work; your skin will thank you for it.
