Full band, plus orchestra dressed in couture neon gowns? Let’s just say Nanette Lepore had me on track with her style show even before the models hit the runway. Neon was everywhere on her scene from wedges to lips to gowns.
Nanette Lepore began her fashion career as a long girl in Ohio dressing up friends and posing them for photos. Growing up in a creative family, her parent’s encouraged her to design away and after completing her education she headed to NYC. Lepore married and worked her way through the fashion game till she could afford to get a studio of her own to work from. Lepore has a large celebrity following and a sells her pieces in domestic and international boutiques.
Live in the neon
The collection Lepore shared at fashion week today was full of some incredible neon pieces ranging from a brilliant yellow fur-textured coat to a vintage-inspired, electric red swim suit bottom I caught a glimpse of on one model. Lepore’s collection showed a blend of vintage-esk pieces meshed together with modern textiles. I personally fell in love with a dress that had a looser top and pencil skirt bottom, in yes of course, vibrant orange!
I loved the dresses with cutout backs, because, well, I’m a vintage girl and they remind me of photos of my sweet grandmas.
Lepore’s handbangs and cluthches followed suit to the electric-sign neon theme of her collection with pieces ranging in material from an extra sheen of patent leather to silky ruffles. I love the oversized-overnight bags we are seeing so much of this year. And yes of course, we saw blazers in this show, like so many other in the last few days. Guess we should have some on hand this year?
