If you want your Botox questions answered, then read along! I am answering your Questions about Botox being toxic, how much it costs, how many units you need and what age you should get Botox. Yesterday I had the privilege of getting my Botox treatment done at Rejuvenate Austin Med Spa with Dr. Jessica Wright and we did a live view on my facebook page while I asked her Botox questions and had the treatment at the same time. It was entirely unscripted, meaning, she had no idea what questions I was going to ask! Her answers are as impressive as she is and her Texas accent just makes the whole experience 10,000 times better.
Also, you should note that I purchased my Botox treatment with Rejuvenate Austin Med Spa and asked to do a live view Botox treatment. Nothing I am saying here is sponsored content and again, Dr. Jessica Wright was not prepped on the Botox questions I would be asking. So, if you want to see the live Botox treatment, check it out below. In the meantime, let’s answer your Botox Questions so you can make an educated decision about if this beauty treatment is for you or not.

IS BOTOX TOXIC TO THE BODY?
Yes, Botox is a toxin, and used in large doses, it could be harmful. But Botox for fine lines and wrinkles is administered in such a small does and only to the affected area, that it’s not going to be toxic to your body. Botox has one purpose, to disable the communication to the muscle that was injected. Meaning, you won’t find the Botox toxin in other areas of the body like you would if you ingested food that had toxic and cancer-causing pesticides. Every type of “medicine” is going to have potential side effects and a huge list of warnings that they have to list for liability purposes. That’s why when you see an ad on television, they give you a long and exhaustive list of every potential side effect possible. (It’s called…they don’t want a lawsuit in lawsuit happy world.)
So, yes, to answer Botox questions about it being toxic, that answer is yes and no. Watch the video hear more thoughts about Botox being toxic from Dr. Jessica Wright; her answer is phenomenal.
HOW MUCH DOES BOTOX COST?
The cost of Botox depends on the area you live, who is injecting, and sometimes depending on if Allergan, the owner of Botox, is offering a deal to the distributor. In general, though, Botox is around $10.00 per unit. Sometimes you can find it for less if there is a special going, and sometimes it can be as much as $15.00 per unit (think Beverly Hills). I would say to not expect to pay less than $150.00 for a Botox treatment.
HOW MANY UNITS OF BOTOX DO I NEED?
A typical Botox question is how many units of Botox is needed. For myself, I usually get between 20 and 30 units injected, but have had as much as 40 units. In general, between the brows gets 15-25, forehead, 8-12, and crows feet get 12-20. This all depends on how strong your muscles are and obviously based on your budget and the recommendation of the persona injecting.
WHAT AGE SHOULD I START GETTING BOTOX
I personally started getting Botox at 21 because I worked at a medical spa as a medical esthetician and I got it for free (perks). While I don’t think I needed Botox at 21, I have to admit, I loved having it done. It was good to be able to discuss Botox with clients from a personal perspective as far as what to expect from the treatment. Plus, loking back, I like that the Botox trained my muscle to not make the expressions that would cause deep fine lines.
More realistically, I think that when you start noticing fine lines and wrinkles is when you should start getting Botox.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET BOTOX
You can expect to get a touch up on your Botox every 3 to 6 months. Really, this depends on the severity of your fine lines and wrinkles and what your injector recommends in order to achieve your skin goals. For myself and my budget, every 6 months is more realistic.
WHAT ARE THE COMMON SIDE EFFECTS TO BOTOX?
The most common side effectS with Botox is some minor swelling and bruising. I personally have never had a bruise from Botox, but it can happen, however, it’s really not a big deal. You can easily hide any bruise with concealer.
WILL PEOPLE JUDGE ME FOR GETTING BOTOX?
Who cares.
WILL PEOPLE TELL IF I GET BOTOX?
If you face is so frozen that you look like you got hit by Elsa, and/or your injector gives your the “Spock” face, then yes. However, good injectors know to not give you an over-Botoxed-look because it just looks weird and you might end up looking like Jack Nickolson, which is just creepy. I think the best Botox is when people think you look refreshed.
WILL YOU NEED SKINCARE WITH BOTOX?
Well, I personally think it’s stupid to spend money on Botox if you are not investing in skincare. That’s my personal opinion as a skincare snob. To me, they go hand-in-hand and any good injector is going to talk with you about skincare and get you onto a good regimen. To you, that might look like they are trying to sell you the world. But actually, it means they are doing their job in taking the best care of your skin possible.
DOES BOTOX HURT?
I have given birth to three babies, so no, Botox to me, doesn’t hurt. When you are injected, you will feel a tiny prick, but it’s not a big deal. Certainly not anything to be fearful of. If you want Botox and the fear of a tiny needle poking your skin is terrifying, ask for a topical anesthetic; you won’t feel a thing.
I hope answering your Botox questions helped you out in making the decision to get Botox or not. If you live in the Austin, TX area, Rejuvenate Austin Med Spa is a beautiful and highly professional location. Their staff is just amazing and I can’t wait to go back again when I have the extra funds (maybe my birthday).
