4 DIY Summer Hair Styles!

Today I am lucky enough to introduce to you celebrity hair stylist, Joe Matke!  He is a 2 time Emmy winning hair stylist, winning for General Hospital and All My Children. He was one of the main hair dressers on Hunger Games and he currently is on the hit show 90210! After a few day’s of phone tag, he generously sent me 4 EASY summer hair tips for you to try out. I personally was so excited and tried out the first one last night, taking picture along the way. Here they are…

1)Keep your hair simple, sexy and sensational!
Create the sexy look of laying on the beach with “home made sea salt spray”

What You Need:

8oz. Spray bottle and 7oz. Water

1 tsp of fine sea salt, 1/4 tsp conditioner (coconut scented smells best), 1 dallop of gel (for hold)

Vigorously shake before each use, turn your head upside down and spray in your hair and tousle with fingers. Your hair will not only look sexy and tousled but also smell like a day at the beach!

(I had already tipped my head upside down btw…just adding a bit more to the front)

Here is my “tousled” locks! I am so impressed by this concoction because I usually buy the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray and now I don’t have to! Yay for DIY hair products.

2)Sunblocked Hair                                                                                          Protect your hair color and the quality of your hair by always spraying sunblock on your tresses! Redken color extend sun screen is perfect. Protects from Uva/uvb rays and contains mango oil for moisture and vibrancy.

3) Braid Girl!
Braiding your damp hair at night will give your hair an awsome waved texture the next morning! Perfect when finished with your home made sea salt spray!

4) Top Knot!
Be hip chic with a hint of late 70’s at the same time, wearing a top knot. Pull hair either tight and severe or loose and romantic into a point on top of head and tie pony into a tall knot! Looks georgous with chaneleer earings!

LEARN FROM THE PRO HIMSELF IN PERSON!

As some of you know, I have been very lucky to have had the opportunity to train under Emmy nominated artist, Kerry Herta in her Colour Box Studio class last June. Kerry teaches classes all over the US and is now teaming up with Joe Matke as he teaches his hair classes.

I am actually going to be taking his class this up-coming weekend the 23rd and 24th of June 2012 in Portland, OR and am so excited! The class is really geared towards makeup artists that need to finesse their hair skills, as well as for beginning hair stylists with no formal training.

“We do all kinds of sculpted up-do’s, classic french twists, chignons, etc. How to set the hair the right way for any style, how to incorporate extensions into any style. The best products for which hair types. The best way to pin and secure the hair and make it flawaless on camera. Tips and tricks, etc. There is a lot involved in this class really and they will get product to take home.”

If you live in PDX,  and are a makeup artist who is interested in some great training as well as a fun time, Joe and Kerry have generously offered a $75 off discount to blog readers! If you can’t make it to this one, Joe teaches classes all over and will be making his way back to Portland again! For more information, please go to colourboxmakeup.com

Hope to see you there!
