6 Ways To Wake Up Pretty

In the movies we often see the female character awake with runway ready makeup—in the real world, we awake with mascara smeared eyes, lipstick swiped across the cheeks, foundation covering the pillow, and hair that resembles that of a rat’s nest. The movies are in full fantasy form, leaving out the realism of bad breath, creased skin from smashing your face in odd ways for hours, and/or the hint of slobber that made its way down the corner of your mouth and onto your shoulder. Why Hollywood wants to make us feel somber about our supposed “morning glory,” I don’t know. But I do know that there are ways to wake up prettier without having a personal stylist or makeup artist whipping you up into perfection before you ever get up to look in the mirror.

So here are 6 ways to simply wake up a bit more pretty in the morning…

1)    Buy a satin pillowcase. This allows your skin a little slip while you sleep, keeping your face from gathering extra fine lines and wrinkles.

2)    Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 2-3 hours before taking your beauty sleep. According to skinsight.com, “When you drink alcohol, it enters your bloodstream and causes the pituitary gland in your brain to stop making antidiuretic hormone (ADH). One of ADH’s main jobs is to regulate the body’s retention of water. Without it, the water in your kidneys gets sent directly to your bladder instead of getting reabsorbed back into your bloodstream. Ever notice how you go the bathroom more frequently after drinking alcohol? This is why. And being dehydrated can make your skin look dull and pale.”

3)    Sleep on your back with your face slightly elevated. This keeps extra fluids from pooling under your eyes causing that lovely under eye baggage effect.

4)    Invest in a face and eye cream that you can use every night to keep your skin from looking dehydrated. This will also prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles from looking more prominent.  Be careful about buying a cream that is too thick for your skin type, the last thing you want is extra clogging of your pores.

5)    Get good sleep! When you sleep, your skin rebuilds and repairs itself- so it’s essential to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep more often then not. For those of us that have kids under the age of two (me), this is near impossible.

6) Oh, and brush your teeth A.S.A.P.
