A few weekends ago I stayed at the Van Zandt hotel in Austin, TX with my girlfriends for a kid-free mom staycation. We needed to get away from motherhood, and this Kimpton location was on my bucket list for trendy and modern hotels to stay locally for a girls night or date night with my husband. I have had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, Geraldine’s, several times before while visiting Rainy Street and may or may not have photo-bombed the lobby a time or two. The mix of vintage and modern decor of the HVZ makes for a good spot for an impromptu phot-shoot, I’m telling ya! I am obsessed with the vibes of this ATX boutique hotel and staying as a guest only amplified my initial obsession; booking a room is worth every penny, and I absolutely plan on doing it again. I’m already looking forward to my next mom vacation.
If you are looking for a vacation or staycation in Austin, you should really consider staying here at this Kimpton Hotel. For me, it was my first time staying as a guest but I guarantee it won’t be my last. When we first got there, we checked in at the front desk (obviously) and were greeted by really amazing humans who made us feel at home. Their customer service is top notch, and I was impressed. I didn’t pack much for this trip because it was for just one night. But I brought along a few basic outifits I could throw a kimono over and my must have travel beauty products. After we got settled, we grabbed lunch at Geraldines and ate outside on the patio that looked out to the pool which made us all want to swim immediately (and also made us second guess our hamburger and french fries we just consumed).
Next, we went to the roof top Pool Deck where I rocked my favorite black crotchet one piece and chilled with my girlfriends on the pool edge, and we sipped our favorite drinks. There were mostly adults in this area of the hotel which made me slightly happy because ya know, mom getaway and ATX staycation. If you like cocktails, they have a full bar with a ton of fun drink options like the Millenial Pink.
I love that HVZ is in walking distance of so many things like Rainy Street. We didn’t have to call an Uber, we just walked out the doors of the lobby and had dinner at Bangers then visited a few other fun places like Lucille’s. We didn’t stay out super late because, well, next up was hotel bedroom girl chatter and I felt like I was back in high school again. We had deep soul discussions and laughed our hearts out until we crashed at midnight.
As far as the hotel room went, it was great! I liked the decor, and the beds were super comfy which is the most critical part in my opinion. We booked a room that had a shower but no bathtub. You can book one that has a tub overlooking the city and next time I am there, that will be happening for me.
At 5 am I woke up and went to the hotel gym and loved the fact that I was the only human there. I ran on the elliptical, lifted weights, squatted off that hamburger and then went to Cafe 605 to write a blog post and sip a delicious almond latte.
Here’s what I know to be a fact, the guy who was serving me at Cafe 605 was next-level nice. The kind of nice that makes you question your own niceness. It was clear he loved working at the Van Zandt, and it spilled out in the way he treated every customer that morning. To me, that’s a testament to how the hotel handles its people. When your employees are happy, your customers and guests will be happy too.
We finished our girls getaway Austin Staycation at the Van Zandt hotel with breakfast and walk along Lady Bird Lake and then headed home.
Do I wish we would have booked several more days? The answer is, staying one day at this Kimpton hotel is absolutely not enough. The ammennaties alone made it worth it in my opinion.
I highly recomment you book at night at the Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt!
