Claire Danes walked down the red carpet in the stunning beauty of old Hollywood with bright red lips and simple swept locks, but the show-stopper for me was her 80s inspired dress. I am not going to pretend like I remember the 80s or like I remember the fashion, but I am liking what I am seeing now of days, yes including neon clothing and crimped hair. Honestly, not all fashion should be brought back, like the adult sized onsies affectionately called bodysuits that have been cropping up everywhere lately; they do not need to come back! But there were classy things amongst all those tragedies as well, like the open-backed dress we see here on Claire Danes.
I just have to keep talking about this dress, really, I do because it is working so many new trends on so many levels. Color blocking has been a huge rising trend in fashion lately and the chunks of black and white blocking on Danes’ maxi dress are following suit. The pattern, or lack there of, makes a bold statement of shape hitting Danes right at her natural waistline.
Danes’s dress also hits the nail on the head with the glittering detail on her waistband, shoulders and back. Sequins and foiled material are another strong trend in fashion this season, especially during winter months when we can use a little artificial glitz and glamour. Right now you can find an assortment of glamourous tops, bottoms and everything in between to appease your inner fashionista. The dark steel bling on this dress matches the deep grey color of Danes’ s eyes and contrasts so smoothly with her red lips.
Now, the cherry on the top, the back of Danes’s dress is absolutely show stopping! I love the way the fabric is cut narrow at the top and widening at the bottom to move the eye along with the natural curve of her body. When looking for a piece that has an open back, don’t hesitate to take the shape of the cutout into consideration: a tapered one like this will give you a fuller appearance, where a slim, diamond shape will make you seem longer. Oh the 1980s inspiration is amazing!
