Why use Vitamin C Crystal for face scrub?

Here’s the deal, the other day I was trying to think of what I could use from home that would exfoliate my skin really well because I wanted to make a fun skincare DIY for you. I forgot that I had the Vitamin C crystals and I wanted to test them out to see how well they did with exfoliation. To my surprise, I was extremely happy.

Vitamin C works as not only an anti-oxidant for warding off free-radicals, but it also helps to exfoliate the skin within the pores, and not just on the surface. Also, this anti-aging ingredient helps with brown pigmentation, and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. So, instead using another form of scrub like baking soda, salt, or sugar, I put the vitamin c crystal to test to see if it would perform the same and not dissolve too fast. I feel like with this method of exfoliation, you can get a double whammy (yes, I said that), and not only exfoliate your skin well, but get some extra anti-aging benefits too.

Instructions for DIY Vitamin C Exfoliating Crystal Scrub

First, you need to make sure that you have the right Vitamin C crystals. I use the NOW Vitamin C crystals because they have an amazing texture to them. Crystals are different than powder because they are a little less absorbent and have some grit to them. Vitamin C powder won’t do much in the way of exfoliation topically, but it’s great to add into other anti-aging DIY’s for sure.

So, if you want gorgeous skin that glows, check out my DIY Vitamin C Exfoliating Powder Scrub that you can make in less than a minute! I recommend just keeping the crystals under your sink or wherever you keep your other beauty products. This is honestly the easiest skincare diy you will ever do.

So, here are the basic instructions:

    1. Pour or squeeze one 1 tsp of non-foaming gentle cream cleanser (doesn’t need to be exact measurement at all) into the palm of your hands.
    2. Then, fill a 1/2 tsp (for gentle exfoliation, and less grit), or 1 tsp (for heavier exfoliation), and pour it into the gentle cleanser in your hand. If you add more crystals to your gentle cleanser, you will get a more aggressive exfoliation, while less crystals will obviously make your exfoliation experience gentler.
    3. Last, rub your hands together gently to mix the ingredients together and then gently apply it to your skin.

To get a good exfoliation, you want to do circular motions on your face. Use light pressure (do not scrub the living life out of your skin. Make sure to avoid your eyes as the Vitamin C will not feel good getting into them. Just being honest.

Only exfoliate your skin for about 30 seconds to one minute. Then, rinse off your DIY scrub product with water and apply your DIY Vitamin C serum.

Any time you use a new product on your skin, you want to make sure that your skin reacts okay to it. So, always test a small amount to see if your skin can handle it. If you have sensitive skin, as in, gets red easily and your skin burns or welts to products easily, I wouldn’t use this method for exfoliation. If your skin is used to using Retinol, Vitamin C, or Glycolic, your skin should be fine.

With that said, be careful to not use a Retinol after you use this kind of exfoliation as vitamin C is already an exfoliate and you are scrubbing your skin to get even softer and smoother skin. Also, when you are scrubbing your skin, don’t go overboard and you could really hurt yourself. Always use a light pressure when you are exfoliating your skin with this DIY Vitamin C exfoliating powder scrub as you don’t want to over do it at all.

How often should you do this DIY Vitamin C Exfoliating Crystal Scrub?

For myself, I would use this DIY scrub about 2-3 times a week.  If you are new to this kind of scrub, start using it once a week, and then work up from there. It’s always better to start less with this kind of scrub than more!

What to expect from this DIY Vitamin C Exfoliating Crystal Scrub

Your skin should be a little red right after you use this scrub. It will tingle a little bit because it is Vitamin C, which is a natural exfoliant. Immediately after using your DIY scrub, you will feel that your skin will feel silky soft and look glowing and gorgeous. Long term results, your makeup application will be much smoother, your pore size with shrink, fine lines and wrinkles soften as well as your brown pigmentation. If you use this DIY in conjunction with my DIY Vitamin C serum recipe and DIY Vitamin C Toner, your results will be even better.

Is this DIY scrub good for Acne?

I would be really careful to use this DIY on active acne that you have picked at as it will burn like a mother. You could try to gently scrub over the full face in a soft manner and with less crystals, but you need to be careful as to not aggravate your acne. There are other DIY that might be better for your acne like this DIY charcoal face mask and scrub.

I hope you guys enjoy this easy DIY and as always, feel free to message me with questions! Have a good one!
