Easy Spring Half Updo For Medium Length Hair

I have medium length hair, or I guess, shoulder length to be exact, and beyond a top knot loaded with bobby pins or a low pony, it can be annoying to create a cute hairstyle. But now that the season has changed, and the sun is shining more in Austin, TX, I feel more motivated to change the mood of my hair. So, for my medium length hair twins out there, here is an easy spring half updo that’s fancy enough to wear to a wedding or casual enough to rock at your child’s next play date. I wore this to the second option with zero shame.

Hair Prep

Before I styled my hair, you need to know that I actually washed it that day. This information is significant because if you have followed along with me on my blog, you know that I only wash my hair every 7 days. Recently I have been trying out the very popular Macadamia Professional Nourishing Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner and oh my, it is delicious. With my Platinum fried dyed hair, I need something that will restore it while keeping the color intact;  this shampoo/conditioner combo does exactly that. It’s formulated with “Macadamia Oil, Argan Oil, Avacado & Hazelnut oil, and Collan & Vitamins A, C, & E to promote hair strength”. Yes please on everything. FOUND HERE and HERE

After I was done washing my hair, I let my hair air-dry. It’s more healthy for my hair, plus my hair has a bit of wave to it and I wanted that for this Spring updo. If you aren’t into letting your hair go all nat-ur-al, I suggest drying it and then using a flat iron to create your curls. If you haven’t done that before, here is a tutorial I did years ago that might help.

After my hair was fully dried, I spritzed some of the Macadamia Professional Nourishing Moisture Oil Spray onto the ends of my hair. Doing this added some much-needed shine and a more healthy vibe to my rather dry hair. Also, this oil spray smells ridiculously good, and I can’t say that I didn’t double it as my fragrance for the day…or essentially just slather it all over my legs and arms.

When you get this stuff, you too will understand. FOUND HERE

Hair Tutorial

Now that you know what I did prior to creating this hairstyle, here is my easy Spring half updo for medium length hair. I hope you guys enjoy!

Steps To Get The Look:

  1. Spritz in Macadamia Professional Spray Oil to the ends of your hair for nourishment if needed.
  2. Separate front side pieces of hair from above the ear and clip it up for later.
  3. With the remaining hair from above the ear line (half of your hair should be down), twist it into a low bun and secure it with a few bobby pins.
  4. Unclip the side pieces and braid them, securing the ends with a small clear hairband.
  5. Bobby-pin the braids as close to the low bun as possible. If the clear hairband is making the pinning process harder, feel free to take it out and just secure it well with the bobby-pins.
  6. Last, separate the braids a bit so that they aren’t so tight.
