Fall Tablescape: Tribal and Mid-Century Inspired

Fall is the perfect time to get creative with your table centerpiece skills and get a little pumpkin action going on without it looking ridiculous and cheesy. Plastic pumpkins? No, thank you. I will pass…and you should too. Why do you ask? Umm…mostly because there are a ton of really cool pumpkins that are real, unique, and inexpensive that will pull your fall decor together in the most glam of ways.

My home has a very mid-century modern vibe to it, so I wanted my fall tablescape to represent that look and feel but also incorporate a tribal theme. The good news is, if you are into thrift shopping, you can find some cool decor items that are pennies on the dollar. Your centerpiece does not need to break your bank, but, it does need to look as if it might have. Do we understand each other now?

Lately, I am really into pops of gold in my house, and the look of brass candle holders from the 70’s mixed with glass accents sounded like a pretty combo. So, I took to Goodwill and Salvation Army and snagged a bunch of things that your grandma probably donated. Honestly, tell your grandma to keep it coming because I am loooving it. Or, just send her my way and I will gladly take her 40-year-old rejected house decorations off her hands. (It’s the least I can do.)

If you are into mixing patterns in your home, we will get along famously. For this mid-century modern fall tablescape, I wanted there to be a tribal theme mixed in since my IKEA rug already has that feel. My rug has a really large print, so I knew my table runner needed more defined lines for there to be a pretty contrast in patterns; I don’t like matchy-matchy. So, I chose a scarf from my closet that I got from H&M that matched what I needed and used it as my table runner. It worked out amazingly well.

Table Runner Scarf Ideas

Like I said, I am not a fan of fake pumpkins. So I picked up three large, imperfectly shaped, Flat White Boer pumpkins from Sprouts Market that have a very rustic vibe to them. I placed them evenly on the table and then filled in the gaps with my thirfted brass items, glass bottles, and feathers.

My two glass bottles are old whiskey holders that cost me around $5.00 to buy. All of my brass items ended up costing me $15.00, and I use them regardless of what season it is. Then my pumpkins were $6.00 a piece and my feathers were $3.00 for the bag. So, the only “fall” items I purchased that should only stay around when it’s fall, are my awesome pumpkins.

If glam tablescapes that remind you of West Elm, Jonathan Adler, and Crate and Barrel are your jam, try thrifting. Or don’t. Either way, please…for the love of fall, don’t use plastic pumpkins.
