Have you ever met someone that is high profile in a particular industry but end up getting turned off by their arrogant attitude? On the flip-side, isn’t it so wonderful to meet major players that are humble, down to earth and able to have a normal conversation? To be honest, it is refreshing! As a makeup artist, it can sometimes be intimidating to meet people who have been doing this for a long time (try 20 years) because they have so much more experience. Some people have crushes on Justin Bieber…I get makeup artist crushes! Seriously.
So I was flattered (and a tiny bit shocked) that RECENTLY EMMY NOMINATED and celebrity makeup artist Kerry Herta took the time out of her day to chat with me. Not going to lie, I may have felt kind of cool. Okay, I felt really cool. And best of all, there was not an ounce of pretentiousness.
“Kerry Herta is the creative force behind many of the entertainment, beauty and fashion industries’ most memorable faces and highly-regarded projects. Her success across every genre – film, HD television, editorial, beauty, fashion, bridal – make her one of the industry’s true creative leaders. A longtime mentor of up-and-coming artists, Herta has chosen to educate while continuing to work on her industry’s most recognizable projects.”
So why am I sharing all of this with you? It’s because some of you aspiring or working artists may be able to have the opportunity to learn from her this June! She is coming to Portland June 1st through the 6th to dish on her insider techniques and show you how to rock it as a killer makeup artist. “The Makeup Boot Camp provides both education and real-world experience,” Herta said. “Artists, many of them already working professionally, can broaden their skills in a nurturing classroom environment. Then they apply these skills by completing real-world projects in a fast-paced studio environment.”
Throughout my conversation with Kerry, I got to ask her a bit about products. I wanted to know what products she would be using in her class. As you all know I am addicted to Makeup Forever, but after our “chit chat” she kind of sold me on another HD Foundation by KohGenDoh. I asked her how the two compared and I was so intrigued by what she had to say, I wanted to share it with you: “ KohGenDoh Cosmetics is a high end HD Makeup with no parabens and no fragrance. It’s beautiful and easy to apply. It doesn’t compare. The color selection is phenomenal, it is silicone free and it doesn’t oxidize and change colors like Makeup Forever.”
Another brand she will be introducing to the class is FACE Stockholm cosmetics, a mother/daughter line from Sweden. She say’s “they have beautiful cream blushes, and the color line is pretty and really easy to use. I love their lipstick and glosses and their powdered eye shadows are beautiful.”
From me to you, she seemed to be a very rad person! I also think she would be lovely to learn from. Don’t miss out on a great opportunity to learn from one of the industries best.
Here is the skinny on her class straight from her press release below:
“During Boot Camp, each student will learn and apply the latest techniques through daily projects –many of which mirror projects Herta has undertaken during her career – using live models and industry-leading products from Koh Gen Do, FACE Stockholm, Crown Brushes and Autonomous FX. Boot Camp also addresses the industry’s business and occupational realities, such as ethics, agents and labor unions.
The one-day Airbrush Seminar also teaches the latest techniques using live models and airbrush equipment from Temptu. Upon completion of this workshop, artists are eligible for advanced level workshops and other ongoing support and assistance as they begin their careers.”

really? Did you go to the camp?
I would prefer more on what is on the inside and not on the outside. But it does not mean that we should not be putting effort on our outward appearance.
Great share, thank you! It’s nice to be able to join classes like these to improve your craft as a makeup artist and it’s more exciting to know that a very well known makeup artist is going to teach the class. If one would plan to start a makeup artist business, it would be advantageous to learn from classes like these because you’ll be able to apply what you have learned into your own business. The latest trends in makeup as well as the latest makeup line that you can use. I’m sure a lot of makeup artists will benefit from it.
Yeah it is! I actually took the class and it was really amazing and I learned a lot! I actually attended another school down in LA, spend 6 weeks there, and didn’t learn nearly as much! So I was rather happy with the decision to go!
