The 90s. I am not going to lie, I don’t remember much other than a horrible encounter in 3rd grade with one of those leotard tops followed by several pairs of glasses that broke and braces. I was young, but the fashion I see coming back sure reminds me of what was around before I had a chance to grow my hair out. Rebecca Minkoff leaves no 90s fashion trend behind in her collection that showed in NYC today.
Minkoff began designing and sewing her own clothes as a high schooler. Her famous “I Love New York” shirt made it onto J Leno and US Weekly booming her career and the amount work she had to do on the floor of her apartment. This success was followed by her 2005 launch of the Morning After Bag and her 2009 Ready-to-Wear Collection coveted by celebrities like Keira Knightly, Halle Barry and Reese Witherspoon. Her focus is mainly on day-to-night pieces for the fashion forward woman and Minkoff’s NYC fashion week is just that.
The 90s Inspired Fashion Forward Woman
Blazers: You can find blazers of all shapes and sizes on the market this season. Minkoff’s were found brilliant jeweled tones with strong shoulder pads. Shoulder pads are one of those things in fashion that I can’t quiet wrap my head around. I am short and petite so anything that makes me look longer I am on board with, but something that makes me feel like I look wider? No thank you. But in accord with my mantra: try it to rock, I bought a blazer from H&M, in a jeweled tone with shoulder pads and I am trying my best to rock it.
Printed Blouses: Chiffon is one of those fabrics that I love for tops because of how it flows over all body shapes. Minkoff combines this with bold animal and floral prints to create unique pieces.
Large Affair Handbag: Love the name, love the style but the quilted patent leather isn’t doing it for. If you love the big city style then Minkoff’s handbags are for you.
