Mineral Makeup Segment AMNW

Here is my latest segment on AMNW with my Momma! All the makeup I used today was  curtesy of Sunset Med Spa, in Beaverton, Oregon.

Mineral makeup has really taken the cosmetic industry by storm in the last 10 years or so. It has gained this popularity due to a simplified ingredient list of pure crushed minerals, which also gives you a built in SPF.

It is also great for sensitive and acne prone skin.

It seems to me that most people either love mineral makeup or despise it!  It can be messy and the color selection is slim — depending on which mineral line you choose. For me, it was a gradual love.  My first experience was a “not-so-good” one. There is an ingredient called Mica that gives glow, it is in every mineral makeup, but each line has different amounts. I tried a line that apparently had a lot of Mica, and I ended up looking like an illuminated light bulb! Needless to say, I was frustrated and wrote it off all together.

Since that first not-so-wonderful experience, I have had the opportunity to get re-introduced to different lines of mineral makeup. One of my all time favorites (that I personally use) is Jane Iredale.  I love this product line because it seems to NOT have loads of Mica, it doesn’t have Bismuth (an ingredient that can irritate skin), and it has 3 different formulations: loose, pressed, and liquid.

Mineral makeup looks great on every age, but can look cakey if not applied properly.  I feel like most women 45+ tend to shy away because of this. But less is more, and a little goes a long way! Knowing how to apply it properly so that it doesn’t look cakey is the key!

So let me walk you through how to apply a mineral powder so that it looks beautiful and fresh.

  1. Make sure to prep your skin with moisturizer, allow your skin to fully dry before applying the powder so that it doesn’t conglomerate in one area.
  2. You will need to make sure that you have a Kabuki brush which is a small brush with a flat top. Having the correct brush is necessary for mineral makeup. It is an investment, but should last around 10 years if taken care of.
  3. Get your mineral makeup ready by either tapping product into the lid, or simply opening up your pressed powder.
  4. Swirl your brush into the product; a little goes a long way so don’t overdo it! You can always add more if needed!
  5. I like to start on the forehead. Simply sweep the product across the face moving side to side and migrate down toward the jaw line. **Jane Iredale has microscopic crystals that overlap and even out your skin and disguise blemishes. There is no need to buff it into the skin.
  6. Conceal areas that need extra coverage with concealer brush and same mineral makeup.
  7. Set your makeup with Janes Hyrdration spray. Press makeup into the skin with clean makeup sponge.
  8. Now that your skin is looking fabulous, play a little with some mineral blush, eye shadows, and lipstick! Have fun…
