Nexxus Color Assure Sulfate-Free Hair Care System Review

Sponsored:

So I want to tell you all a little shocking story about my hair. This redish-blondish-brownish hair color of mine is not its natural color (hair shock of the century right there). In fact, I couldn’t even begin to tell you what my natural hair color is because I have colored it since my freshman year of highschool, 15 years ago.  Needless to say, my hair needs to have some special treatment as I don’t want to drain the hair color I just spent my money on. So, I want to tell you about the Nexxus Color Assure, Sulfate-Free hair care system that can be found at Walmart….it has been rocking my hair’s world.

Sulfate-Free

What’s great about the Nexxus Color Assure, Sulfate-Free hair care system is that the goal of the entire line is to ensure that your hair color stays locked in, frizz stays out, and you have more radiant and healthy hair.  With that said, I am going to walk you through each product that was sent to me and tell you my experience with each one.

What Does Sulfate Free Mean? Sulfates are harsh chemicals that can be found in most shampoos and soaps. It can be irritating to your eyes and scalp and can also cause hair color to fade and hair to frizz. In addition to that, rumor has it that sulfates have been linked to cancer. Although, that has not been proven.

Nexxus Color Assure Pre-Wash Primer

Brand Overview: “Introducing Nexxus Color Assure, Weightless Formulas, Featuring Exotic White Orchid Extract, Help Seal And Protect Each Hair Strand; Repelling Water To Keep Your Colored Hair Remarkably Vibrant.”

My Experience: Before the Nexxus Color Assure Pre-Wash-Primer, I had never heard of such a thing. But it actually makes sense to use a primer before washing so that your hair color stays fresh by repelling the water. So I pumped about 3-4 drops into my hands and smoothed it into my dry hair, starting at the base of my hair and moving up. I noticed immediately that my hair felt like it had a glossy residue on it, which kind of freaked me out. But that vanished quickly once I washed my hair and then later saw the amazing results everything gave me. My only tip with this product would be if you have more fine and oily prone hair, perhaps only use 1 drop, instead of 3-4 drops, and spread it around evenly.

Nexxus Color Assure Sulfate-Free Shampoo

Sulfate-Free

Brand Overview: “This rich, sulfate-free formula provides a luxurious lather that gently cleanses and nourishes hair for a long lasting color vibrancy.”

My Thoughts: Using this shampoo was a different experience for me and one that I definitely needed to get use to. I am someone who likes a ridiculous lather on her hair (just like my 3 and 1 year old girls), and when you use a sulfate-free shampoo, you just don’t get that. What was really cool about using this sulfate-free shampoo in conjunction with the Pre-Wash-Primer is that my hair felt silky while I was washing it. Usually when I wash my hair with any shampoo, it is begging for the conditioner immediately and feels rather straw-like. But that was certainly not the case when I used this shampoo, which was a very pleasant surprise. Oh, and by the way, I did get a nice lather on my hair, it just didn’t create a bubbly mass on my head like I am use to.

Nexus Color Assure Sulfate-Free Conditioner

Brand Overview: “Our exotic orchid-oil infused formula moisturizes hair while preserving color vibrancy. For hair that’s soft, smooth and nourished.”

My Thoughts: I only had to use a dime size amount of the Nexxus Color Assure Conditioner in order to get perfectly conditioned hair. I love that because a little goes a long way with this, meaning it will last much longer. One thing to keep in mind when applying conditioner is to keep it towards the end of your hair. Most of us have a little natural oil towards the roots of our hair, so there is no need to condition up there.

Nexxus Color Assure Sulfate-Free Glossing Tonic

Sulfate- Free

Brand Overview: “This weightless exotic orchid-oil infused formula provides a fine mist that dries quickly and instantly brings out color’s luminosity. It’s the perfect finishing touch for reflective shine.”

My Thoughts: After I pre-washed, washed, and conditioned, I used 3 to 4 sprays of the Nexxus Glossing tonic towards the ends of my hair. What I loved most about this product was that not only did it give me some much-needed shine, but I also barely had to flat iron my hair at all since it was already so smooth and soft. To me, that is a major bonus since I didn’t have to use so much styling heat, which can cause further damage to hair. With that said, if you have more oil-prone or super fine hair that weighs down easily, using any gloss and high-shine product could potentially be too much for your hair to handle. My suggestion would be to only use 1 spray of this at the ends of your hair, or skip this step all together.

Overall Thoughts and Opinions

Before the Nexxus Color Assure Sulfate-Free system, I had no idea what using sulfate-free even meant. I didn’t know that I could be using a hair care product that not only helps keep my color vivid, and hair frizz-free, but could also be found Walmart. This is a major win in the hair department; my hair has never felt so good!
