Want high-quality makeup brushes that won’t break the bank? Check out my review of the Pixi Professional makeup brush set that has 9 brush essentials all zipped up and organized in a travel-friendly cosmetic bag. This makeup brush set was not only created for at home use but also for the budding and seasoned makeup artists alike. It’s inspired by the brush set that Petra, the creator of Pixi, used while she worked as an artist herself.
So, since I am always on the hunt for makeup brushes that work and blend well, I wanted to test these out and give them a try. At $42.00 for nine makeup brushes ($145.00 value), it’s almost too good to be true! Read to the end to see if they are worth the bargain.
What Comes In This Makeup Brush Set
Cheek Brush: This is a large domed brush that is made for blending blush, bronzer, and face powder. It’s made out of synthetic hair making it a good choice for Vegan cosmetic lovers.
Cream Base Brush: For a Vegan foundation brush option, the PIXI cream based brush is pretty good. It’s made with Taklon Nylon hair and costs $16.00 if purchased alone.
Crease Brush: If you want to add depth to your eye makeup look, this crease brush will give it to you. It’s shaped at an angle, making it easy to get into the crease of the eye. It’s also made out of pony hair which is my preferred makeup brush ingredient as it grabs eyeshadow so well. It also does a phenominal job of blending. If you bought this alone, it would cost $14.00.
Shadow Brush: This is the makeup brush that everyone needs to have. It’s a brush basic, but it’s also an essential that you need to have. And- since it’s a must have, you should make sure high-quality. This Pixi shadow brush is amazing; I love the shape, that it’s made of pony hair, and that it’s incredibly soft. Apart from this makeup brush set, it costs $14.00.
Precision Brush: Perfect for smudging a smoky eye, this compact precision brush is a makeup artist’s dream. It’s made out of pony hair, making it the best makeup brush for blending out eyeliner to give that sexy evening look. Alone, this costs $12.00.
Cat Liner Brush: Since I am a cat eye pro (and snob), I am pretty picky about what I use. I also don’t think a brush set is complete if it doesn’t have an angled eyeliner brush, so I am happy to see it in here. This brush is made out of synthetic hair which is great for using with gel or cake eyeliner. This brush easily grabbed my potted black liner and I was able to get a clean retro-vibed eye. If you buy this angled liner brush alone, it costs $12.00.
Lip Brush: For everyday use, a lip brush isn’t an essential, but as a makeup artist, it most certainly is. This lip brush is perfectly angled and made out of synthetic hair to give an awesome red lip without much frustration of not staying in the lines. It’s also only $10.00 by its self. Not bad.
Flat Liner Brush: Made with synthetic hair, this flat eyeliner brush works great with gel or liquid liner. You can get a really tight line easily with this makeup brush. While it’s not something that I use alot, it’s still a great brush to have around if you are wanting to avoid the vintage eyeliner look the the cat liner brush. Alone, this brush will cost you $12.00
Lash & Eyebrow Brush (Spoolie): For perfectly groomed brows and seperated fluffy lashes, this spoolie is a . make brush essential. If purchased alone, it will cost $8.00
Pixi signature zip-around brush bag + detachable accessory pouch: The best travel makeup brush bag you will ever have and it only comes with the set.
Overall Thoughts and Opinions
Honestly, I can’t even believe that this makeup brush set only costs $42.00. That is an absolute steel considering what they are made of, and how they are packaged in a makeup brush holder. Even the brush handles are well crafted out of wood. I wouldn’t just recommend this for at-home use; it’s perfect for makeup artists who are constantly packing brushes and traveling. In-fact, if you are a makeup artist, I would go ahead and buy a couple of these because the price and quality of the brushes are that good.
With that said, there is one brush that I am sad isn’t in this makeup brush set, and it’s the eyeshadow blender brush. You know that oval, fluffy looking brush? I honestly can’t survive in life without one, and I have an outrageous amount of them in my makeup kit and random spots in my house. Perhaps it’s one of those weird obsessions.
Would I recommend this? Absolutely. The Pixi professional makeup brush set is not only a bargain, but it’s a total must-have in my opinion.
