Today I am lucky because I am sitting at a Starbucks, viewing the ocean in Maui and writing this Birchbox Review. So far the trip has been so relaxing, I even went snorkeling a few times. Although…I must admit, I am kind of an embarrassing person to snorkel with. Let me just give you a mental image real fast.
Just imagine me, with my prego belly…AND a large neon yellow flotation device wrapped around my waist, and all of my snorkel gear. I definitely WAS NOT the cool chick, I totally looked like a tourist on every level. Oh, and I am terrified of sharks (Maui is #4 for Shark attacks in the world) so after about 5 minutes under water with my husband, my mask started filling up and I thought for sure I was going to die so I turned back around and doggy patteled franticly to the shore.
I recall my husband say to me, “don’t be such a baby.” Well, I deserved that because I made him hold my hand and swim me back to shore because I thought mr. Great White was going to see my belly as a yummy treat and have a chomp, chomp. I have watched way to much Shark Week I think. oh-well, I will try again at a place called Black Rock tomorrow.
OKAY NOW FOR THIS REVIEW FOR THE BIRCHBOX MAY GLAMOUR GIRLS BOX. I love when Birchbox does themes, it just makes me happy, lets see if I am happy with what’s in the actual box.
Clearly this is the box…what do you think? Do you like the packaging? I do.
When I opened the box, I had to have a moment of silence (I am not the squealing type like my friend Amy from Onedivineparty.com) out of appreciation for the glorious items inside the box. I also loved the color combo, those details just make me happy.
Products Inside
What It Is: “Shu Uemera Cleansing Oil Shampoo is perfect for all hair types and textures, the oil-to-foam formula binds with the grease and product buildup on your scalp before gently whisking them away. At the same time, it respects your hair’s natural oils, so your strands never feel dry or stripped. Finally, it adds bounce and body to your locks while leaving behind a calming yuzu citrus scent. All in all, it’s a true superhero product.”
My Thoughts: Okay, I was interested in this product, a $55.00 shampoo must be A-MAZ-ING! When I put it in my hand, it really does look and feel like oil which seems odd to put in my hair. It did sudz up a little, but not enough for those of you who like your hair to be a bubbly disaster in the shower to make you happy. So, even though I think the concept of this shampoo is cool, it didn’t “wow” me in any way. It certainly didn’t make me want to skip my $25.00 shampoo for this. No Thanks.
Rating: It’s not you it’s me (2 points)
What It Is: The Birchbox Note Cards are exactly what it say’s….a notecard.
My Thoughts: While I like notecards, I don’t want this in my Birchbox thank you very much. I WANT BEAUTY PRODUCTS. This is a beauty subscription, not a stationary subscription. Enough said.
Rating: This just isn’t going to work out. (1 point)
The pretty pink packaging in the box had the Dior Diorshow Extase Mascara inside and the Dior Miss Dior Perfume Sample. I liked what was in the surprise package this time for sure.
What Is Is: “Dior’s Master Perfumer François Demachy reinterpreted the classic scent, a sweet blend rich in Italian mandarin, Egyptian jasmine, and Indonesian patchouli.”
My Thoughts: I was indiffernt to the fragrance, I liked it but didn’t love it. I think the blend on mandarin and patchouli is interesting and I will definitely use the little sample. I actually brought it with me to Hawaii! -$62.00
Rating: I really like you (4 points)
Diorshow Extase Mascara
What It Is: “Dior took its classic volume-boosting formula and added a patented ceramide complex to help your lashes grow thicker and stronger over time. We put it to the test, and we’re thrilled to report that it won’t clump, smudge, or fade after a whole day of wear.”
My Thoughts: Here are some pictures so you can see what my lashes looked like with the mascara.
No Mascara
One Coat Of The Diorshow Extase
Two coats of the Diorshow Extase
Continuation: I think you can tell from the pictures that it didn’t make my lashes look crazy amazing. I didn’t see much of a difference between layers…did you? I think I will pass on this for future purchases, but I will use up the sample. I also think it was a nice sample to get in the box either way. -$28.50
Rating: It’s not you it’s me (2 points)
Miracle Skin Transformer SPF 20
What It Is: “It works as a light moisturizer, SPF 20, and a skin-perfecting tint—curing roughness, hiding blemishes, and even masking scars.” Just to clarify, you use this on the body…legs, arms etc.
My Thoughts: I think this is genius, and I really liked the way it made my legs look when I applied it, all nice, shiny and flawless. I think I would use this for special occasions when I need to look my very best. Like maybe on date nights or something. -$34.00
This is what it looks like rubbed in.
Rating: I think I really like you (4 points)
OVERALL THOUGHTS AND RATING:
Even though my rating of the products inside are not that great, I did think that it was a good box because I got to try thing’s that I definitely would have been curious about. So I got to try them and decide that they were not the best for me.
Rating: I think I really like you. (4 points)
