Luminizing Black Mask
What it is:
I have heard tons about this mask, so I thought I would run over to Sephora and grab a sample to try see if it really is what everyone is saying it is. According to Sephora this mask is a, “groundbreaking, mineral-rich mask that peels off to deliver powerful detoxifying, purifying, and brightening effects.” It is formulated with powerful antioxidents to help shrink pores, firm the skin, and reduce inflammation. It sounds like something everyone would benefit from! Let’s see how it works…
What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Synthetic Fragrances
– Synthetic Dyes
– Petrochemicals
– Phthalates
– GMOs
– Triclosan
Active Ingredients: -Vitamin C (Ascorbyl Glucoside): Delivers healthy, younger-looking skin by dramatically brightening, minimizing hyperpigmentation, preventing free-radical damage, and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
-Calcium Montmorillonite Clay: First discovered in Montmorillion, France in the 1800’s, it is considered the premier-quality clay, containing 67 minerals. It absorbs excess oil, dirt, and toxins from the skin; exfoliates dead skin cells; and leaves the skin purified, nourished, restored, and immaculately clean.
-Maritime Pine Bark Extract (Pinus Pinaster Bark/Bud Extract): Extracted from the bark of the maritime pine trees, it provides exceptionally powerful antioxidant and soothing benefits as well as long-lasting conditioning.
-Witch Hazel (Hamamelis Virginiana): An anti-inflammatory and natural antiseptic extract that kills blemish-causing bacteria while it helps restore skin suppleness, tighten pores, prevent whiteheads and blackheads, and provide a firming effect.
This mask is extremely thick, it feels like black tar…and it looks like black tar too. Don’t you think? I have never seen a mask look like this before, so I am intrigued.
Make sure that when you put your mask on, you avoid your brows…unless you want them to come off of course. If you are someone who doesn’t like mess…you might struggle with this a bit. You want to avoid getting this on your clothes, I didn’t test it, but I am guessing it would be difficult to get off.
Wait about 10-15 minutes for it to dry, your face will look funny and feel extremely tight. Now it’s time to pull it off!
I started at the corners and worked my way over. It feels less like your are slowly ripping a band-aid off your entire face! I do regular chemical peels, so this doesn’t feel any worse than that. However, if your face is more on the fuzzy side, this could potentially really not feel that great.
Getting that last piece off- this entire step took about a minute….you have to slowly take it off as it does hurt a bit. Once it is completely off, rinse off the remaining residue with warm water.
Here is what the mask looks like entirely off my face. At this point my face feels tingly and looks slightly red, nothing I can’t handle.
Overall Thought and Opinions
Besides the pulling off, I really liked this mask a lot. I had a wedding to go to the very next day and I had tons of compliments on how much my skin was glowing. My pores appeared much tighter and my skin much, much softer. Part of the softness could be due to the fact that there were probably no little hairs left over after doing this mask as it took them all off. If you can stand a little un-comfort, the pay off in my opinion is great, I thought my skin looked as pretty post mask as it does when I do a chemical peel. Plus the cost difference between one single chemical peel and an entire tube of a wonderful mask is pretty huge. Would I buy this, yes I would! I only received a small sample of this product but I am entirely sold! It is something I will purchase and incorporate into my weekly routine!
Hi kendra, thx for your review…….I have also heard good things about this mask before but never got a chance to try. Must get a sample now!
Harshleen- thank you for the comment! It really is great, and Sephora gives very generous samples!
Hi, question for you, Did this mask remove the whiteheads?
Well- if you have a white head, it may pop it and help clear it up faster. But if you are ore referring to black heads- it does a great job of pulling them out. Thank you for your comment- let me know if you try it!
