Reviva Labs Skincare Review

I don’t know about you, but when I shop at Whole Foods (or something like that) I just feel better about life. I think they must spray Organic sedatives (or just Lavender) in the air so you walk around in such a state of calm that somehow you end up spending $10.00 on one organic tomato. You know what I mean. With that said, if you ever peruse Whole Foods beauty isle, you will be pleasantly surprised to see products with great ingredients at a pretty low cost that you can actually feel good about purchasing weather you are sedated or not. Today I am reviewing a few products from the Reviva Labs skincare line that was established in 1973. They are known for introducing the first non-chemical European Exfoliant to Health Food Stores, known as “Light Skin Peel” which is what we are going to start out with in this review! Let’s see how these products hold up under my opinion.

The Review

Non chemical Light Skin Peel-$20.00:

The Product: One of my first attempts at using a skin peeling agent was a few nights ago with the Reviva Labs Non-Chemical Light Skin Peel. The company promises that the exfoliating properties in the peel will allow you to see immediate results. I am pretty picky about what I put on my face but I loved the all-natural ingredient list of the product and so was encouraged to try it out. For a full list of ingredients go HERE.

The Packaging: I don’t really have much of an opinion on the packaging. It’s not amazing, but it’s not bad either.

The Experience:

The texture of the mask is sort of like Elmer’s glue with a real grittiness in it, but it spread on easily with my fingers. The product stung a little bit but only at first application and it didn’t last longer than a few minutes. Once the mask dried, about 10 minutes, I went to peel it off, which hurt way worse than I thought it would. (My face is sort of furry, another long story, so I am sure that’s why it hurt more.) Once the mask was off, I checked out my blemish-of-the-month filled skin. The tone looked less dull than it had when I first started, which I loved, but the redness of my blemishes were still very present. The next morning I felt like my skin still felt really smooth and more bright than the night before from the dryness of winter.

Price and Value: For $20.00 you can get a great product that will do what it’s meant to do, take off dead skin cells and leave your face feel refreshed.

p.s- After helping me take all the pictures and laughing at me while I peeled it all off, my husband said “he guessed” I could put the product on him to try it out too! He said it made his skin feel more smooth and he liked that it didn’t feel tight and overly dry after he’d used it. Don’t tell him I told you!

Problem Skin Mask-$13.00

The Product: This product is pretty straight forward, it’s main ingredients are Zinc Oxide, Camphor, and Sulfur. It is meant to really help clear up acne or random break outs. For a full ingredient list, go HERE.

The Packaging: Not bad, not great, get’s the job done.

The Experience:

When I first opened the little white tube/jar, there was definitely a slight sulfur scent, but it didn’t bother me at all. It was easy to apply, dried in about 10 minutes, and was easy to get off. My chin area and I are not really that good of friends. It likes to get clogged if I even think about, so this mask actually helped keep a few large zits from really making it’s way into the world. Do I think it’s anything miraculous or something I haven’t seen before? Not really, but it’s one of those basic thing’s I like to keep around to keep “things” at bay. Oh- and the price is really very reasonable,  you have to take that into consideration.

Price and Value: Again, for $13.00 you have a basic item in your skincare tool kit that will help you on those day’s when you are less than pleased with that lovely addition to skin that popped up.

Reviva Makeup Primer-$19.50:

The Product: Apply over moisturizer or instead of moisturizer. Lines fill in, pores are concealed, excess oil is controlled. Has Vitamin A, D3, Olive Oil, and anti oxidant Q10. For a full list of ingredients go HERE.

The Packaging: I really liked that this packaging was a pump, it was very easy to use, gave the perfect amount, and was not messy.

The Experience

I used Becca as a model to show off how this product looked on the skin. I used the primer on the (camera left) side of her face and you can clearly see a big difference between the softness and tone of the skin. It is much better with the product on. My experience with this product started out interesting. Once I applied a half pea size amount to my skin, it got sort of tingly and itchy feeling, then after 15 seconds it went away.  I wore it without any foundation on top because my skin looked so soft and smooth. However, I did notice some nice blackheads the next day due to the dimethacone which can do that to me.

Price and Value: It is rare to find a primer that doesn’t have dimethacone in it, I am just sensative to that

Vitamin E Oil Stick w/ SPF #15-$4.00:

The Product: This is a lip and under eye protection product in a tube. It is meant to moisturizes, soothe and protect against dryness and sun or wind damage. Features SPF15 sun protection with vitamin E, allantoin.

The Packaging: I am pretty sure this packaging has not been updated since 1973. Enough said.

The Experience: I have to be honest and say that this is my least favorite product. I think the ingredients are pretty basic although they do still get the job done for moisture and protection. Also, I prefer to keep my lip and undereye products seperate, that kind of weirds me out.  But I am keeping it in my purse for those day’s when the Oregon wind wips around and gives me chapped lips.

Overall Thoughts

I think there are pieces to this line that are interesting and worth checking out. I am pretty happy with the product for the most part, but I wouldn’t necessarily run out and purchase it either. There are a ton of other products in this line, like the Hyaluronic Acid Serum that looks amazing and is a very good price.  I also have to mention that the website for these products feel scattered and I found it kind of difficult to navigate. It could definitely use some major updating which I think would make it more appealing to consumers like me.

Pros: Good Price, Quality Product (For the most part).

Cons: Good ingredients or not,  I just wouldn’t naturally gravitate towards this if I saw this at the store, it could use some packaging and aesthetic updating.
